The Grit - Mountain bike excursion on Gran Canaria

Tough climbs and exhilarating downhill rewards! Our hardest MTB challenge! Light lunch included.

Once we've finished checking in at the Free Motion Hub in Playa del Inglés, it's time to load ourselves and our MTBs onto a minibus and trailer. A 20-minute transfer brings us to the charming oceanside village of El Pajar. This is where today’s MTB activities begin. To warm up, we start with a few gentle hills through the town of Arguineguin. Then our MTB tour really kicks off as we head offroad and dive right into our first climb challenge of the day! We navigate a dirt track that eventually transforms into a thrilling singletrack. After a few traverses on the first plateau, we turn south, heading back towards the ocean for some exhilarating downhill fun!

Once we reach the bottom, we embark on our second, longer climb of the day. This takes us towards Palmeral Noruego, or Norskeplassen in Norwegian! We encounter more fantastic singletracks as we ascend along the plateau. This takes us to our highest point of the day at 538 metres above sea level. Here, we take a short break to soak in some breathtaking views. By this point, we've conquered quite a bit of elevation gain, and it's time to shift our focus back to the descent! We’ll tackle some thrilling singletracks with plenty of features providing technical challenges.

Making our way back towards Arguineguin we head to the local XCO track on the outskirts of town. For those still brimming with energy, a lap around the MTB track awaits, while the rest of us cheer you on! From the XCO track, we briefly ride on tarmac into Arguineguin, where we enjoy a well-deserved lunch break. After restoring our energy levels, we then pedal a short distance on tarmac including a sneaky little climb. Going offroad again, we head back towards Maspalomas, following the coastline and riding up and down a few ravines, before entering more populated areas. Finally, we conclude today’s MTB cycling tour with a few kilometres of smooth tarmac down to Playa del Inglés. The day ends with some well-deserved refreshments.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY (TD): Most of the ride is TD1, with some TD2 and TD3 sections in the middle. (See the Technical Difficulty scale for details.)
FITNESS LEVEL (FL): A High-FL is required for this MTB tour. The ride has many climbs, most of them are relatively long and/or steep. (See the Fitness Level scale for details.)
