Average daily mileage: 55-90 km
Daily elevation: 650m up to 1.600m
Average speed: 18-22 km/h
Our Cappuccino Road Tours offer an enjoyable experience for those who want to go for rides that are focussed more on the social aspect of group riding. Furthermore, we allow plenty of time for taking in the unique Gran Canarian nature and spectacular scenery, may that be mountains, coastline or villages. However, there are still a few challenges to overcome on every ride. Even if the pace is relatively slow, the island is anything but flat, and together we’ll conquer the hills and descents that come our way!
Average daily mileage: 65-100km
Daily elevation: 1.100m up to 2.600m
Average speed: 22-26 km/h
Our Hobby Road Tours are for riders who are used to being in the saddle for at least 2.5 hours between longer breaks. Having previous experience with cycling in a group is recommended. As we venture further on the island, we'll face a few tougher and longer climbs. The pace will be moderate but steady. Fear not, we will take regular breaks for refuelling and taking photos of the spectacular scenery. Let’s go!
Average daily mileage: 70-105 km
Daily elevation: 1.100m up to 2.600m
Average speed: 24-28 km/h
Our Sport Road Tours are for the experienced rider, who is used to long hours in the saddle, riding in a group, and can hold a faster and more consistent pace on longer climbs. We will occasionally stop to take in the views, snap a photo and fill up our bottles, as well as having a longer mid-ride break. Challenge yourself and join us for a memorable ride!
Technical Difficulty (TD) & Fitness Level (FL) Ratings
TD0 (Very easy) - TD0 are routes without any particular difficulties. They run mostly on unsealed roads or paths on a natural surface with good grip, or compact gravel. Steps, rocks or roots are not to be expected. The gradient will be slight to moderate, turns are not tight. These roads/ trails can generally be ridden even without any particular technical MTB skills.
TD1 (Easy) - On TD1 routes, you will have to ride over smaller obstacles such as flat roots and small stones/rocks. Very often you'll find that the odd gulley or erosion damage is the reason for this difficulty rating. The surface may not always be firm. The gradient would have a maximum of 40%. The turns are generally wide. TD1 routes will require basic technical MTB skills and constant attention. The trickier passages call for dosed breaking and body displacement. They should generally be ridden in a standing position. Obstacles can generally be rolled over.
TD2 (Somewhat difficult) - TD2 routes often contain larger roots and stones/rocks. The surface is frequently loose. Steps can be expected. Often there are narrow/tight turns and the gradient can be up to 70% in places. The obstacles require body displacement to be successfully ridden. Readiness to break at all times and the ability to shift your centre of gravity are necessary techniques, as well as the ability to regulate the pressure of your breaking and hold permanent body tension.
TD3 (Difficult) - Blocked singletrack with larger boulders, tricky rock gardens and/or root passages can be encountered on TD3 routes. There are often higher steps, tight hairpin turns and tricky traverses. The opportunities for relaxed rolling are rare. The surface is often very slippery due to loose materials. A gradient of over 70% is not unusual. Sections with this difficulty rating require you to have very good bike handling skills and unbroken concentration. Exact breaking and a very good sense of balance is required.
TD4 (Very difficult) - TD4 routes include very steep and blocked singletrack, with large boulders, challenging rockgardens and/or demanding root passages, as well as frequently loose scree. Very steep slopes, narrow hairpin turns and steps on which the cogs unavoidably touch are frequent features on TD4 routes. In order to safely ride this category route, techniques such as being able to move the front and back wheels sideways (e.g. in hairpins) are absolutely essential, as well as outstanding breaking technique and balance. Even carrying a bike up such passages is often not free from dangers.
TD5 (Extremely difficult) - TD5 routes are characterised by blocked terrain with counter climbs, scree slopes and severe erosion, extremely narrow and tight turns, multiple obstacles (e.g. fallen trees) – frequently in extreme steepness (cliffs). Very little if any breaking time. Obstacles may at times need to be ridden in combination, and many of them have to be jumped over. Hairpins are so tight that moving the wheels sideways is hardly possible, even carrying the bike would be almost impossible as you need your hands to hold on, or even climb."
Fitness Level (FL) scale for MTB & eMTB
Consider all factors and identify which level best describes your current MTB riding routine. The scale is merely a guide. If you are unsure of which level to choose, please speak to any of our staff, they will be happy to assist you in making the right choice.
Basic You ride an MTB once a week, in general for at least an hour each time, on mixed surfaces, including a few short hills.
Medium You ride an MTB twice a week, in general for at least a couple of hours each time, on mixed surfaces, including a few long hills.
High You ride an MTB ˃2 times per week, in general for at least a couple of hours each time, on mixed surfaces, including long hills.
General MTB
Our MTB tours are mainly designed for fit and experienced offroad riders. Our current tours have a distinct cross-country flavour and all of them include a few longer, tougher climbs. The routes are a great mix of broken dirt roads and singletrack, amongst mountains, valleys and along the southern coastline. Some sections of winding asphalt roads do exist, mainly as connections between the various riding areas. Furthermore, all the routes have some technically challenging sections (T2 and/or T3) which require some extra focus and effort. In general however, it is the elevation that makes these rides ‘advanced’, more than the technical difficulty. Join us on these great mountain bike adventures that showcase the hidden offroad gems of south-central Gran Canaria. Let’s GO!
This section explains each difficulty rating in more detail, and the necessary technical skills required. It assumes that the riding conditions (light, weather, ground etc.) are ideal.

General e-MTB
Our e-MTB tours are well suited for MTB riders who have good bike handling skills, but don’t necessarily want to push themselves too hard on the longer, tougher climbs. Some sections of winding asphalt roads do exist, mainly as connections between the various riding areas. Furthermore, all the routes have some technically challenging sections (T2 and/or T3) which require some extra focus and effort. In general however, it is the elevation that makes these rides ‘advanced’, more than the technical difficulty, but with our great e-MTB’s it’s pure joy! After the check-in at the Playa del Inglés Free Motion Bikecenter, we load up and transfer ourselves and our MTBs to our starting point in Sardina. From here we enter the Barranco de Tirajana and begin our gentle climb to the north.
The impressive ravine slowly narrows as we approach the spectacular Fortaleza Rock, a historic site for the indigenous people, the Guanches, of the Canary Islands. Harsh rocky scenery is mixed with abundant palm groves as we climb up from the ravine towards the village of Santa Lucia, our lunch-stop for today.
After restoring our energy levels, we ride across to the other side of the valley and join a scenic dirt track on the western side of the ravine, perfect for MTB! We follow this undulating track for a few kilometres in a southerly direction, through small hamlets and a few palm tree oases.
The road converts to a fast-paced, rocky downhill section, and eventually brings us to the coastline, which we follow back to Playa del Inglés. Here, we conclude the MTB cycling tour and can enjoy some well-deserved refreshments!

After checking in at the Free Motion Hub in Playa del Inglés, we start this eMTB cycling tour with a gentle 12km warm-up. This takes us on a winding tarmac road up through the beautiful Ayagaures Valley. Once we arrive in the village of Ayagaures, it's time to go off-road! We climb the hill to the east and enter into what we call the Grand Canyon region. This spectacular area is filled with mountains, ravines and breathtaking views. Making our way along a dirt track and across 3 ravines we reach the Fataga Valley. Here, we climb up to the village of Fataga where we take a break and enjoy a locally sourced lunch.
Once our energy levels have been replenished, we turn south and head out of the valley, taking in a few short climbs and exhilarating descents along the way. The last climb of the day takes us up to the Mirador de Degollada de las Yeguas. From this spectacular vantage point, our climbing efforts are rewarded with amazing views of both mountains and ocean. From here it's pretty much all downhill! We follow a fun singletrack trail, built by the local MTB enthusiasts. This MTB trail leads down to San Fernando and then across to Playa del Inglés. This is where we conclude the tour and can enjoy some well-deserved refreshments!
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY (TD): Most of the ride is TD1, with a few shorter TD2 sections towards the end. (See the Technical Difficulty scale for details.)
FITNESS LEVEL (FL): A Medium-FL is required for this eMTB tour. The ride has many climbs and some of them are relatively long and/or steep, you can use as much or as little e-assistance as you wish! (See the Fitness Level scale for details.)

Upon arrival at the Free Motion Hub in Playa del Inglés, we proceed to check-in before preparing ourselves and our eMTB bikes for a 20-minute transfer via minibus and trailer. Our eMTB tour gets underway in the charming oceanside village of El Pajar. To warm up, we navigate a series of gentle hills through the picturesque town of Arguineguin, before venturing off the beaten track and immersing ourselves in the first climb of the day. Ascending along a dirt track that gradually transforms into a thrilling singletrack, we are greeted by breathtaking views as we traverse the terrain. Turning south, it’s time to shred the descent back down towards the ocean!
Once down, we embark on our second, more challenging ascent towards Palmeral Noruego, also known as Norskeplassen in Norwegian. Once again, we are rewarded with some great singletrack as we work our way up along the plateau. The pinnacle of our journey sits 538 metres above sea level. Here, we pause to catch our breath and admire the awe-inspiring views. Having gained elevation, our focus shifts once more to the thrill of the descent. We navigate some exciting singletrack, with many features providing technical challenges, as we make our way back to Arguineguin and the local XCO track on the outskirts of town. For those still brimming with energy and battery power, a lap around the track awaits. If you’re bonked, just relax and cheer on your fellow riders. From the XCO track, we set off on a brief section of tarmac. This leads us to Arguineguin, where we pause for a well-deserved lunch break. Replenished with newfound energy, we embark on another short stretch of tarmac, including a cheeky climb, before returning to the dirt trails that take us back to Maspalomas. Following the captivating coastline, we’ll ride up and down a series of ravines, before reaching more populated areas, and finishing off with a few kilometres of tarmac down to Playa del Inglés. This is where we conclude today’s eMTB tour with some well-deserved refreshments!
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY (TD): Most of the ride is TD1, with some TD2 and TD3 sections in the middle. (See the Technical Difficulty scale for details.)
FITNESS LEVEL (FL): A High-FL is required for this MTB tour. The ride has many climbs, most of them are relatively long and/or steep, you can use as much or as little e-assistance as you wish!. (See the Fitness Level scale for details.)

Today’s MTB cycling tour starts with a check-in at the Free Motion Bikecenter in Playa del Inglés. After which we load up and transfer ourselves and our MTBs by minibus and trailer to the starting point of the ride. This is at the very southern part of the Gran Canaria Pilancones Nature Park at 900m. Enjoy the panoramic views of ravines, mountain tops and the ocean as we commence our steady climb northwards up to an elevation of 1200m. We then descend to Embalse de Chira, a water reservoir and dam nestled in-between the mountains. Here, we get onto a winding tarmac road for a couple of kilometres, before turning left onto a spectacular dirt road where we can admire stunning views of the surrounding mountains and ravines, and climb up towards the village of Ayacata and our lunch-stop at 1300m above sea level.
After restoring our energy levels, we begin the second part of the MTB tour. First, we descend back towards the Chira dam, on a fast-paced, winding tarmac road. We now encounter a few technical MTB challenges as we venture to the northern side of the lake. We then ride across the dam wall and commence the climb back into Pilancones Nature Park. However, this climb is on a different road to the one we came down on. We keep following this dirt road through the Park, mixing a few steady climbs with exhilarating descents, until we reach our original starting point. As we make our way back to the Free Motion Hub in Playa del Inglés, it's mainly downhill towards the coast. However, there are a few cheeky climbs thrown into the mix too. Here, we conclude today’s MTB adventure with some well-deserved refreshments!
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY (TD): Most of the ride is TD1, with a few TD2 sections in the middle. (See the Technical Difficulty scale for details.)

After the check-in at the Free Motion Bike Center in Playa del Inglés, we start today’s eMTB cycling tour by riding westward, towards the outskirts of town. We cycle through the hilly areas between Maspalomas and the town of Arguineguín following the undulating terrain, and negotiating the many peaks and valleys. This cycling route is mainly on narrow dirt tracks and at times on nice singletrack with good flow. We then descend into the oceanside village of El Pajar and follow the coastline for a couple of kilometres into Arguineguín.
Here we take a short lunchbreak and replenish our energy levels. We then make our way back towards the same area that we came from, taking on a few challenging climbs and fast-paced descents en route to Maspalomas. This is the perfect eMTB route to admire the Atlantic Ocean for the vast majority of the way. We eventually arrive at Playa del Inglés and conclude the tour with some well-deserved refreshments!
